Following the announcement of Diablo 3 and the in-game screenshots / video, there were a lot of "discussions" (read: hate and flames) regarding a petition questioning the artistic direction the game has taken (e.g at Kotaku and Destructoid).
I finally got the time last night to write my own piece on the subject, so if you're bored (it's quite lengthy) and care you might aswell check it out!
In summary though: The game will be great regardless what happens, but please don't hate your gaming brethren for coming up with suggestions and voicing opinions (as long as it is done in a mature manner). That's even sillier than the clear nutjobs(!) who dare question any aspects of Blizzard's judgement.
Peace!

I, for one, am very excited about Diablo 3. If gameplay is as good as it was in 2, then a graphical style is really not too big an issue for me. First and foremost it needs to be FUN!

Absolutely agree with you, and I fully trust Blizzard when it comes to gameplay. I just find it understandable that when it comes to the visuals, having such a large part in the mood / atmosphere that is so important to this series (singleplayer in particular), people care and may not always want to sit idly by and merely hope for the best when they see something different to - and in their opinion lower than - their expectations. As long as we stay civilized in whatever opinion we wish to express, all is well. In the end we all want pretty much the same thing.

Well put. Now I understand your viewpoint and I agree. Since it's still in deep development, we should comment on what little they do release to us...I'm sure they take notice of our comments, and if enough people voice opinions on things like art direction, they may very well shift gears.

Oh for sure, they already changed some things people had gripes with in StarCraft 2 so they're definitely listening. Glad to see you understand by the way, not everyone does (or wants to). People seem to think it's a matter of whose opinion is right or wrong, while that is in fact completely irrelevant (and pointless). It's all about expressing - nothing more - what we would like to see in a product under development just so that the company knows, which I imagine would be appreciated. But what actually happens in the end is of course up to Blizzard alone.
